While 2009 was a difficult year for most, marked by losses, layoffs, and lowered expectations, for Subaru it was a year of breaking records and setting firsts. As we move into 2010, we look forward to watching the Subaru brand continue its upward momentum. 2009 Subaru highlights include:

 

Subaru established an "all-time" sales record on a YTD basis, exceeding our previous record by 8 percent.

 

Subaru was the "top" performing brand in 2009 (and 2008) in the entire industry, with sales up 15 percent in an industry that was down 21 percent.

 

Subaru achieved our highest market share in franchise history at 2.1 percent.

 

Subaru received the Motor Trend "Sport/Utility of the Year^®" award for the 2010 MY Outback. Forester also won the Motor Trend "Sport/Utility of the Year^®" award for the 2009 MY, making Subaru the only brand to have won Motor Trend's "Sport/Utility of the Year^®" award for two consecutive years.

 

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) announced that all 5 Subaru models - Legacy, Outback, Forester, Impreza, and Tribeca - were "Top Safety Picks." Subaru is the ONLY brand to have every model recommended a "Top Safety Pick." For the 2010 MY, only 27 models were named "Top Safety Pick," and Subaru had 5 of them, or about 20 percent of the total.

 

Automotive Lease Guide (ALG) announced that the Subaru brand has the "Best Residual Value" in the marketplace, exceeding Honda for the first time in 6 years. Forester ranks 1st in the Compact Utility segment, and Outback ranks 1st in residual value in the Midsize Utility segment. And the Subaru brand ranked 2nd in the ALG residual value study for the 2009 MY.

 

In the J.D. Powers Owner Loyal Index, Subaru has moved up to 4th in the industry, and Subaru was named the "Top Asian Nameplate" in the J.D. Powers Sales Satisfaction Index (SSI) study, exceeding Toyota, Honda, and Nissan.

 

Subaru has the most "fuel-efficient" lineup of AWD products in the marketplace.
